Holmsfirth, the setting for the Last of the Summer Wine BBC series is the home of the Wrinkled Stocking Cafe, a popular spot for visitors to eat. The Café, located just next door to Nora Batty’s house, was desperate for a solution to the summer heat in their kitchen and they approached TEV for their help. An Eco 35 heat pump was selected as it would give 3.5kW of cooling and 3.7kW of heating, perfect for the kitchens needs throughout the year. The installation offered challenges and became an issue of concern however, even to the BBC. The solution was eventually found in fitting the unit under the steps at the back of the cottage and running a discreet pipe from the unit to the kitchen. The owners, Sue and Chris now enjoy cooled comfort on hot summer days and that much needed warmth for the winter mornings.

Situated close to Buckingham Palace, the headquarters of Girl Guiding UK chose Marstair for the sensitive application of their archive rooms which house historical documents, uniforms and artefacts. Two CD3008 close control units, each connected to MCU+ 80 condensing units were installed. The CD3 series provides air conditioning for applications where the close control of temperature and humidity is important, and is designed to give the specifier maximum flexibility, the engineer easy access for installation and maintenance and the end user ease of operation. The design conditions applied are 18?C db room temperature plus or minus 1?C, and 55% RH plus or minus 5%, assuming a maximumambient temperature in the summer of 30?C . Marstair was chosen as it could achieve this . Supplied by Heronhill Air Conditioning, Somerset, the units were installed and re-engineered for use with hydrocarbon refrigerants by Earthcare of nearby Queen Anne’s Gate in London.

Adaptability was the key for Marstair in delivering a split system solution for this prestigious building, The system comprised a HLR Hi-Lo unit with MHPUE reverse cycle heat pump outdoor unit installed in a wine bar extension for members and guests, whilst a CX70 cellar cooler connected to a CKC80 outdoor unit was selected to keep wine and beer in wine cellar at the ideal temperature. The HLR unit was chosen as it offered top/front discharge and able to be adapted to provide a totally concealed unit, the chassis was removed from its casing and converted to a discreet stowaway unit, without compromising the systems high performance and efficiency. THE CX Cellarator was selected for its effective cooling, enhanced safety, ease of maintenance and ability to offer long pipe runs upto 80m – something essential for the buildings configuration. The equipment was supplied by Heronhill Air Conditioning, Somerset and installed by Reading based Calmec Building Services.
